As one of the most awaited feasts by millions of Filipino devotees concluded yesterday, so did two other lives of people expressing their faith in a very elaborate way.
It is just fitting that this feast happen just days after the New Year enters, with most of the devotees attending profess their faith and ask for guidance from the revered Nazarene. Many envision that with their one day sacrifice will be rewarded by a whole year of blessings, heavily depending on the supposedly miraculous image of Quaipo.
Sadly, two people accidentally lost their lives and served as their final sacrifice to their incredible devotion, as 400 more people got injured in the duration of the procession. Even the Manila Archbishop frowns upon this what he referred to as "excessive expression of devotion".

And really, I agree with the Archbishop. Thousands of devotees attend this event yearly showing how truly devoted they are. But sadly after this day, everyone is back to their old ways.
I think that instead of doing this yearly, why not express your devotion in a simpler way? Come on, God doesn't need antics that only last for a day and loses its essence after that day. What He needs for us to do is change for the better. No need to get injured for Him.
I really am not a believer of religion. Even I am asking why do these things and do that, when God already knows what we want and need. Remember that God didn't create any religion, so it is just logical to say that religion is not perfect. So I believe in God rather. And I believe that he understands why people sacrifice their lives for the Feast of the Black Nazarene. And I also believe that he has good reasons why he called two of his most loyal disciples. God bless their souls.
